I was watching the news late last night and I was shocked to hear of the death of a famous celebrity.

Their career started in the mid 60's and through the next couple of decades their fame and fortune knew no bounds. It all started to go sour towards the 90's and nobody has heard or seen much of them in many a year, save for the odd picture in those celebrity dross magazines showing off their latest bout of failed plastic surgery.

Yesterday, they passed away. I'm sure you are all with me in prayer for this fallen idol.

RIP Farrah Fawcett.

Oh, and some dude called Michael Jackson died as well.

I was online last night when a friend sent me a link to the news website that first broke this story. I remained awake well into the morning, watching and listening to the BBC's live coverage as more information became available.

I cannot claim to the be the world's biggest Michael Jackson fan, but I have certainly been in awe of the man since I was old enough to be aware of him. I understand that many people may dislike him for various reasons, or may not like his style of music, but I do not think that anybody can argue that he has been a massive inspiration to so many other people, including countless musicians.

Career-wise, I have also wanted to be involved in music; in particular the creation of it. Whilst I have never done anything more than pass a few singing exams and perform at a couple of local fundraisers, the one person I would have been so delighted to have met in such a capacity would have been Michael Jackson - a man who enriched my life with his music, and with so many songs that I have found inspirational.

There have been several high-profile celebrity deaths that have occured during the course of my life so far, and certainly there will be several more, but I was surprised by how much the news has affected me. I am very upset over the passing away of this individual: a person who I've never met, yet who has given me many things I treasure.

This is a very sad day, and I can only imagine how his family and friends must feel. I wish them all well.
