Kings of Convenience--I think my music taste is getting middle-aged. Not that I like what middle-aged people like, but lately it's all about the quiet folky study jams. I should put myself on an all-Sonics diet.

Also the new Animal Collective is TASTY. You wanna put it on a cracker and slowly munch your way to climax.

Como quieres.

So a bunch of bands I like just put out new albums! This is convenient! The Decemberists' Hazards of Love had me rolling my eyes until I listened to it. Holy peanuts, Batman! My Brightest Diamond lady makes an appearance. She takes Colin Meloy and puts him under her metaphorical car through the power of song.

We'll ignore the poorly constructed metaphor.

Also, there's a new YYY album (It's Blitz) and the single is lovely-lovely. Skeletons is another quality tracklet. Good job all-around, team.

The Decemberists' Hazards of Love

You continue to give me no reason to doubt the quality of your taste. Great album, great band.

I've been churning through all kinds lately, as you might expect given that my new job leaves me surrounded by thousands of second-hand CDs. Big discovery for me was Susumu Yokota - I picked up 'Magic Thread', and found it to be a lovely ambient 'tronica set in the Boards Of Canada vein, but with a fresh and interesting identity stamped all over it. Well worth a punt.

I don't have all of hazards of love yet, but I am on my way to getting it. I'm listening to all their stuff though, since I saw them on Friday and it was unbelievably awesome ohmigod.

Unicorn Kid and Sabrepulse. I'm in a silly bouncy mood. smile.gif

(on that note, I've encountered two artists of the same genre in the last week from England named after unicorns: Unicorn Kid and Unicorn Dream Attack. The question clearly arises, WHERE ARE YOU KEEPING THE UNICORNS BRITS?!)

Last couple of months have been all about the King Blues for me, plus a load of local / unsigned acts from my neck of the woods as I've been helping out on an unsigned showcase...really good stuff!
Outside that I've fallen in love with the Spiderman Theme as sung bu Michael Buble!!! Cheesy as hell but the big band sound is awesome with the theme, it works and wo'nt leave my head. Neither will Fairytale by Alexander Rybak, the Norwegian Eurovision song... it...just ... wont... leave!

Been listening to this glorious glorious group out of San Francisco called Rupa and the April Fishes. Everyone should listen to them! (if everyone likes crazy French gypsy rumba). In particular, "Maintenant" and "Une Americaine a Paris" ("Nous ne sommes pas a Paris, nous sommes a la vie!")

Give it a week and that mixtape I promised you in January should be ready. Do I have your current address?

The new Taking Back Sunday album is on it's way to me from amazon (and I think I remembered to use the links for it) which has me very excited. Recently it's mostly been really bad emo, like Hit The Lights and All Time Low. Hmm. What else... something people on here won't shy away from and throw rocks at me for. Um... Tegan and Sara? Flaming Lips. Everyone loves Flaming Lips. And the Postal Service. And remixes of Flaming Lips songs by The Postal Service. Can't no-one throw rocks at that.

If it's Flat 3 in Kidderminster then yes.
I will finish yours eventually, it's hard because I'm trying to go for stuff you maybe don't know but will still like and seeing as I get most of my best music from you it's awkward!

2nd movement of Dvorak's piano quintet in A major op.81...

It sounds like winter, but something a bit strange, like a snowy clearing. And mmmm F sharp minor, and sharpened 6ths. Aahhh.

Anti-Nowhere League, because they're awesome.

Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements - the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life - weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode. So, forget God. The stars died so that you could be here today. ~Lawrence Krauss

Alanis Moirrissette - Ironic.

The irony being that Ms. Morrissette doesn't actually mention anything which even borders with irony. Examples, just from the chorus:

- Rain on your wedding day is bad luck.
- A free ride after paying is bad timing.
- Not taking good advice is a poor choice.
- "Who would've thought?" and "It figures" are expressions used when Murphy's Law comes into play.

Maybe the song should've been called "Bloody Typical", but then it wouldn't scan.

Blimey, a rare visit from the Inkmeister. How rare! And how's that old scrote McGeachin doing? Still fielding your calls, I see.

I'm currently listening to the Boo Radleys "Ichabod And I", largely because I meandered across it whilst looking for something else. See, before the Boos had their fifteen minutes ("Wake Up Boo" being the, erm, highlight) they were a more raucous Indie shoegazy outfit who recorded this particular gemlet of an album. Completely free of production values and sounding like a rough-cut with some dodgy drumming, it was actually a whole bucket load better than anything they recorded properly. But that's just my opinion, and I'm an ageing post-Goth type who's nearer pension age than teenage. Guh sad.gif
