QUOTE (Industrial Kybosh @ Sep 26 2004, 03:44 PM) ATTENTION COMMIE!!! Best album of the year slot now belongs to Nick Cave and his wonderful double-album 'Lyre Of Orpheus/Abbatoir Blues'. Nice to see that, whilst the other big hitters of miserablism have let us down of late, the Cavemeister can still pull some truly breathtaking tunes out of the bag. I can't recommend this album enough. It blew me away on first listen, and it's only been getting better since. BUY IT, DAMN YOU! I'm only halfway through Abattoir Blues - it's playing as I type - but already I think you may have hit the nail on the head there, Inkster. I'm loving it so far, stylistically it's the natural progression from where he was going with Nocturama. Good too to hear that Bargeld's departure hasn't hit them too badly. -------------------- Every sort of expert knowledge and every inquiry, and similarly every action and undertaking, seems to seek some good. Whoops!! My bad, I thought it came out this year.
Can't find my cd, I suspect the boyfriend has borrowed it. I mean the one with "in the shadows", was that their debut? Or am I on about a newer album? Don't mind me, I'm having a blonde month. -------------------- Gratefully adopted by Silver Star Angel of Da Towers(Good cake hon)

/me thwaps commie for being a smart bastage.
I still haven't found much else this year that has really blown me away. The Killers had a few good songs on theirs (ok, a few very good songs), but the album felt like it was lacking something. And Modest Mouse are pretty good, but again they have a sort of splintered feeling to their work too. What year was the Yeah Yeah Yeah's last album released in? I think it was '03 or '02, but I'm not sure. Only just started listening to it though, and its the best thing I've heard all year, but then it doesn't count (I think). -------------------- When, will I, will I be famous?

It slipped onto our shelves early this year, I think. Did nothing for a while, then sold like a mad bugger. FU - the new Green Day album rox0rz. The security guard at our shop has hardly had it off the stereo. I was honestly surprised at how good it was. smallcute - jammy sod. I'd love to experience an Aberfeldy live show. Their songs seem so lovingly crafted, and I'm a sucker for cute female vocal harmonies. Oddly enough, my fiancée heard a car playing one of their songs the other day - 'Tie One On', as it happens. And I thought I was the only Aberfeldy fan in Stoke... -------------------- the end is nice |

I have to say I think the scissor sisters album is fantastic. It is one of the few albums that I can lsiten to from beginning to end without skipping a track. "Return to Oz" is just so completely WOW! and the rest of the album is superb

The best of Talking Heads, which we probably be released this year or maybe the next year. Because well you hear them too much on the radio. And only their one song.

And only their one song. Meh. I personally think that their older best of, 'Once In A Lifetime', is better. Furthermore, we sell it for £5.97, rather than £9.97 for the new one. Raaah. Best compilation of the year, in my eyes, belongs to either Supergrass, with 'Supergrass Is Ten' (spent ages debating the grammar of that... -------------------- the end is nice |

Seeming as you do work in a magic musical shop, I might try and get some SFA. But is it as good as Blur? |

Ohh a new Power Metal release. Must go buyee when I have cash.
I'm still loving the Modest Mouse album, Good news for people who love bad news, so I'm casting my vote though the Nick Cave does come close in second (thanks for the tip Commie). -------------------- @>-'--,--Cath and gothictheysay are my E-Teapotettes.@>-'--,--
