Commie recommended I start a new thread for this, because I didn't feel it was proper to discuss it in Favorite Authors. Just list yours, I'm listing mine!

First of all: Jhonen Vasquez. The genius behind JTHM - the JTHM plot, the meanwhiles, the wobbly headed bobs, the happy noodle boys. He also expanded more on Squee (I found a T-shirt at hot topic and immediately bought it - the many faces of Squee. Picture of squee's eyes on front, like a rectangle part of his face, and then different expressions on the back. biggrin.gif) as well as I Feel Sick. You may have seen his Invader Zim when it was on Nickelodeon.

Gary Larson --> The Far Side
Bah, who does Pearls Before Swine?
Charles Schulz --> Peanuts
The creator of the Boondocks and the creator of Dilbert...

there's a bunch more...that's just for now...you?

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again, both written by the ledgendary Frank Millar get my votes for best "comic book", though if it were "graphic novel" i would say the majority of the sandman books are without equal, even if i think Gaiman's talents are better suited to novels.

Thanks for telling me who created Dilbert, I'm reading HGTG (last name of adams) and I thought I was just thinking of that when I tried to recall the name.

Oi! See, I forgot Garfield. I read Get Fuzzy and Foxtrot in the Sunday paper, generally I enjoy them, but not as much. Never read a Batman...don't throw things at me. tongue.gif

Was 'The Watchmen' done by Frank Miller too? Very good story that one.

Neil Gaiman, and Scott Adams have already been mentioned, so along with Frank Miller that's my best three covered I reckon. I like Johnen Vasquez but I can't help but feel he's lost his motivation since he started making a decent living.

I'm hopelessly in love with the works of Neil Gaiman...although Carey Gross (the person writing the Lucifer graphic novels) and Warren Ellis (writer of Transmetropolitan) are both way up on the list.

I used to really love Garfield when I was younger, but I guess I think Jim Davis has probably reached the limit of his creativity. *braces for onslaught*

oh, and I'll always love Berkely Breathed. (I hope I spelled his first name right)

Yeah, I read a lot of the treasuries and about 15% of the stuff in there is pretty much crap. I still like the strip though. laugh.gif

Lucifer graphic novel? Those three words in that order...*runs to amazon*

Art Spiegelman's Maus is excellent, I recommend it. I don't know who does them, but I like the Preacher comics too. And, of course, Dan Clowes' Ghost World, on which the popular film was based.

I think Gaiman wrote Preacher too, although I could well be wrong.

i dunno about gaiman writing preacher, but I'm pretty sure that it was miller that wrote Watchmen. I had that recommended to me in Borders by a complete stranger at the same time as she recommended the dark knight returns, though I've still to read it. You're not the first person I've heard say its good, Mata, so i reckon I'll end up giving it a small perusal at some point.

Megatokyo -- Fred Gallegher (sp?)
Rabid-Monkeys (not sure of the author name atm)
Spells and Whistles (same as above)
No Ordinary Love (LCC)
Wicked Alchemy (dunno her name...)
Starcross'd Destiny (Juno B. Blair. Yay Juno!)
Inu Yasha - I'll be damned if I can even spell the author's name ^^;;
Cowboy Bebop - same as above
Gundam Wing - I used to know it - I'll have to check when I get home.

And I still look up stuff occasionally, so more may be added to the list. Some of these are online comics, btw. Megatokyo does have some manga out in bookstores, though. smile.gif

I like Kevin Smith's work in Daredevil and the Jay and Silent Bob comics. I'm also a fan of the funny world of Jim Mahfood and his obsession with the '70s.

Ghost in the Shell 2: Mesumae Shiro
Evangellion: uhhh dunno
Oh My Godess: again... can't remember
Card Captor Sakura: Clamp
Chobits: Clamp
Clover: Clamp
Wish: Clamp
Magic Knight Rayearth: Clamp (basically any non-hentai by clamp except Clamp School Detective and it's spinn offs... that just annoyed me!)
Nausicaa of the Vally of the Wind: Hayo Miyazaki (the one who wrote Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away... Nausicaa was also turned in to a movie by Studio Gibli)
Star Wars: Mara Jade by the Emperors Hand: ? (hence the name MissJade!)
Star Wars: The Dark Force Trilodgy: Timothy Zahn (dunno who did the art but the comic was good... I think the book was better though)
Star Wars: Dark Empire (is that what its called... I forget... it rocked though.. no idea of the artist or writer.)

I'm waiting for the Ghost in the Shell 2 comics to be turned into a graphic novel. I adore the film, the manga was surpising because it was a lot more like Appleseed in its tone than I was expecting. Are the GitS2 comics a sequel to the film or to the manga?

On a side note, I can't wait to get the series that's been made as a sequel to the film, and there's a new game on the way too! Yay! I hope they don't screw it all up... I've got some great theories in my thesis about the first film, a sequel could make my life very tricky...

I think they are a sequel to manga. I'm looking forward to the next film alot, It's being shown at the Cannes Film Festival this May actually.

Daniel Clowes other comics are great aswell.

Yeah!!!! happy.gif Nausicaa was actually my very very first exposure to Manga. A friend of mine loaned me the entire series and said "You must have these read by the end of next week!" They're what got me into anime and manga in the first place!

Mata: the GITS 2 comics (hehe... Gits 2... the revenge of the Gits... ok I need help! wacko.gif ) is the sequal to the GITS comics. They are planning to make a GITS 2 Film which I'm really psyced for. I'm pretty sure they won't screw it up.

Garth Ennis wrote Preacher and damn what a good job he's made of it. And such a good good source of dubious sexual triva.
And as already said Neil Gainman and Frank Miller. One thing I do have to say about my X boyfriend is he has damn good taste in comic. biggrin.gif

*.* manga I'm in heaven.
The first Manga I ever got into was Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon, and will always and forever love it no matter how immature people think I am. So.. here's my list.

Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon- Naoko Takeuchi
Inu-Yasha: A Feudal Fairytale- Rumiko Takahashi
Vampire Princess Miyu- err.. can't remember name
Yu-Gi-Oh- -.-';.. can't remember either
Naruto- again.. I can't remember

One thing that does bother me about Anime is that they completely butcher the original story or make it all childish because they think young american veiwers can't deal with it or something. Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon and Yu-Gi-Oh are excellent examples of this butchery. That's why you should always get the Japanese version of the Anime, and always always always read the manga.
And.. as you can tell.. the ones where I remember the author's name.. are ofcourse my favourite. Inu-Yahsa is soooo cute.

I'm a big fan of Larry Hama and John Faerber for their work in Generation X. I'm also a big Gary Larson (the far side) and Gary Trudeau (Doonsbury) fan. And you can't forget Jim Davis. Garfield kicks ass.
