Gender Not Set
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

It's summer right now, which means I'm constantly thinking about how much I hate hot, sunny weather. So I want to know what everyone else thinks about the seasons or different times of year... Do you have a favorite season? What do you like or dislike about certain times of year?
I hate summer because I have no desire to "suntan" or "get some color" from sunbathing. I hate it because sweating feels very uncomfortable and bars me from going much of anywhere in the summer. (I find it amusing that most people regard summer as the time to do things and go places, when I view it as the best time to stay home and avoid the outdoors.) I also find it embarrassing that my face turns a very noticeable shade of red after a measly five or ten minutes of not-so-strenuous activity in the outdoors during a hot day. For some reason, my face changes colors very easily, such that I can get lots of stares for doing much moving around outside in the heat.
I really like the autumn and winter weather though. I find myself most comfortable when I can wear long sleeves under short sleeves, piling layer upon layer of clothing. And it's easier to sleep when you're cold than when you're hot. At least in the cold you can pile on more blankets. When it's hot, there's no escape, short of sleeping in the bathtub with cold water. Hot weather is just inescapably unbearable to me...
Autumn and winter also look prettier. I like the appearance of all the colorful leaves in the fall, as well as the bare-boned look of the trees after their leaves have departed. And winter is usually when the precipitation comes, snow or rain depending on where you live, and I love watching it rain/snow.

What is everyone's opinion on transsexuals, the transgendered, and cross-dressers? (Just as a note, transsexuals are people who actually undergo surgery or hormone therapy to change their physical appearance; transgendered people basically adopt the mannerisms, behavior, and/or appearance of the opposite gender; and cross-dressers -- well that's self-explanatory -- people who dress in clothing that is typically made for the opposite sex.)
Does this type of thing make you feel uncomfortable, or do you fully support whatever these individuals choose to do?
There's also been some controversy in the past about whether transsexuals should be allowed to change the sex that's listed on their birth certificate, after they undergo sex-reassignment surgery. (I think this is mostly because they want to be allowed to marry the opposite sex after the operation.) Should they be allowed to change their sex on their birth certificate?

I'm curious to know who here has any animal companions (a.k.a. "pets" but I don't like that word). Do you have dogs or cats or snakes or rats or hamsters or fish or birds or...? Can you tell us any interesting stories about your animal friends? Funny habits of theirs?
Or if you don't have any animal companions right now, do you wish you did? Have you ever had any?

This topic was inspired by some comments I read on page 7 of the A/S/L topic in Daily Life. What does everyone think about people who identify with a certain country of origin or ethnicity? Do you think it's ridiculous when people proclaim "I'm French" or "I'm Norwegian" when they haven't even visited their country of ethnic/racial/cultural heritage? Particularly in the case of Americans who were born in America and have never been outside of America but still claim other ethnic heritage... What's your opinion?
