Hi Matazone forums! Long time no post. I'm usually in IRC.

To the point: I recently started volunteering at an exotic bird rescue (http://arizonaexoticbirdrescue.weebly.com/). Their previous regularly scheduled volunteer that was more or less running the place is no longer with the corporation, and doesn't come in anymore. He was 20 and just didn't have a maturity level needed for a management type position. Essentially what just happened is I'm now taking over a lot of his responsibilities and then some (or a lot, some isn't exactly accurate.) The rescue was in pretty sad shape, though not entirely his fault - we lack people volunteering.

I've boiled the lack of volunteers down to a lack of awareness and a lack of regularity and structure. I'm working on a volunteer calendar to hold people accountable for showing up. There's a lack of organization overall so those that do come in lack direction. That's being hammered out. The previous guy had months to work on that and I'm turning it around in about a week. Thirty or so volunteers have been emailed two days ago with a survey for availability, and only 3 have responded. We'll see how it goes by the end of the week. This I have under control, hopefully; however I fear we will lack active volunteers.

What I'm not seeing happen is fund raising events or regular donations. Up to this point I've come up with a handful of ideas:

Donation cans at various locations
Enact a Text-To-Give program which can be posted on bulletin boards and on donation cans
Have local businesses do a raffle for low-cost services (an hour tattoo session, a haircut, a massage, gift cards etc.)
Create a calendar from bird pictures
Get involved with after school programs to raise awareness of the rescue
Photo sessions with the birds
Bird classes for a $1-$5 donation
Bumper stickers and T-shirts available at the rescue (and have a design competition for both)

As of right now the rescue is bleeding money. Donations help, especially the people that do monthly ones (even if it's just $1), but not everybody does that.

So Matazone! I need your help with ideas for fund raising and ways to increase the amount of donations coming in.

Hey everybody,

The basic rundown of my situation is this:
My girlfriend is doing her student teaching in Berlin. Back in December, before she left, I bought a ticket to fly over and see her. I asked if she wanted me to visit, and she said yes.

Something has changed. She told me she doesn't have feelings for me anymore, doesn't want to be in a relationship. I'm giving her space right now.

But I have this ticket to Berlin. If I cancel it I'm out $200 for cancellation fees. I still get most of the money back, but for me $200 is a fair amount of money. It's my opinion that she should be the one giving me $200 because she said she wanted me to come over there otherwise I wouldn't have bought the ticket, and her view on that is "I didn't ask you to come". But I did ask her if she wanted me to.

Spoon, ironically one of my favorite bands, is doing a European tour for the week that I'm over. Here are the dates I need people's help with! Places to stay! People to hang out with! I'll end up in Berlin on the 12th, and screw it if she doesn't want to be with me, I'm coming over anyway and I just won't go to see her.

FEB 14 - Glasgow, UK
FEB 15 - Manchester, UK
FEB 16 - London, UK

So, who has floor, couch or bed space? tongue.gif From there I figure I'll be heading back to Berlin for the 20th as they play there and I fly out on the 22nd.

I really would appreciate if maybe I could work something out with you lot. There are some of you I didn't get the opportunity to see (or saw for a shorter period of time than I would have liked) when I was over in '08.

Hey all,

I might be in Germany during the last week of February/first week of March. I was just wondering if anybody would want to go to Berlin biggrin.gif I'll be there.

I found it interesting, figured it might amuse some. I know it's oldish, but I haven't checked my RSS in a while.

I found this website interesting. Type in your dimensions and you can compare size differences between electronics. I think it's useful when considering multiple MP3 players or portable media players, what have you. I just used it out of curiosity to compare a few devices I considered as I just ordered an Archos 5
