So. In less than two weeks ickle AU shall be off across the pond to Germanland. ph34r.gif

As frightening as this prospect is (both for me and for the poor unsuspecting Germans) I'll be stranded for three whole weeks for schooling. So I may very well be "going away for awhile." Gott im Himmel.

Well, I've never been outside of the country before. I've been to Epcot several times, but I have it on good authority that this doesn't count. So--any suggestions? Good chocolate I should buy (priority one)? Foods I should try (try telling a German you are vegetarian; they just blink at you)? Places I must see? Things I must not do or they will notice me for the witch (American) that I am and burn me? Or just about any bit of advice or encouragement to help me out?

And if I happen to be up on a mountain, Europelanders, I'll yell "hello." biggrin.gif

Yesterday in Philly I went to see the Body Worlds exhibit. The short and long of it is that a German anatomist invented a process to replace body fluids with plasics. The skinned, posed bodies, often with several organs removed or rearranged such that it is easier to view different parts of the anatomy, have been arranged into a exhibition.

It's facinating, and it's an amazing opportunity to see the different systems of the body. It's also highly controversial, especially an exhibit of plastinated faetuses and a woman who was 8 months pregnant when she died.

Thoughts? Is this a disrespectful use of a human body? Justified? Art? Would you donate your body to be skinned and put on display?

I'm not sure who lives where, but I hope everyone here and their family and friends got clear of the storm. Are we certain everyone's OK? My prayers everyone down South. Keep safe.

For those who haven't seen as much coverage as we're getting on US news, Katrina devastated several southern cities and will probably rack up as the costliest natural disaster in our history. There is no running water or electricity and hundreds, possibly thousands of people are already known to be dead and tens of thousands more are stranded in the Superdome or on rooftops. Okay, so I accidentally dyed my fingers brown cutting zucchini (henna-like), and it got me to wondering if I could do the same to a shirt. However, I haven't found and haven't heard of any ways to do organic tie dyeing, and what plants are good to use, or even how to make a dye from plant material. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Thanks. ^^

So. Took the new SAT today. Remember, kids, pencils are for making your mark heavy and dark, not stabbing through the eyes.

I'm ready to pass out. It was more draining than anything else. It's really nerve wracking to be constantly reminded that my entire college-going career rests on the results of four hours of filling in little circles. Wish me luck (ugh).

Anyone else share in the four hour fun? Going to? Thoughts on the new, improved test? What is the UK equivalent, anyway?
