New Little Goth Girl animation

The new Little Goth Girl animation is online:

Little Goth Girl – Open Mike Night

I’m quite impressed, this took just under two weeks to make. Mixing the soundtrack actually took about six hours in the end. It’s amazing how long something like that takes! My microphone appears to have nearly given up the ghost, so I spent quite a lot of time trying to boost the volume without destroying fidelity. It’s perhaps a little quiet, but I really couldn’t amp it any more otherwise there was too much distortion. I’ve got some nice ambient effects in the background which people probably won’t notice, but I’m happy that they’re there!

Six hours on the sound… I hate to think how long these things take to make. I’ve given up keeping track!

I’m rather pleased with the look of this one. There is a nice 3D feel to it, but it was all done by hand. There is some use of standard perspective on the front of the club and a huge amount of motion-tweening plus some shape-tweening to achieve the on-stage camera pan. The results look really nice, I think, but so they should for the time that they take!

Some good news for fans of Mittens and Samurai Lapin: the chaps doing the merchandise for me have agreed to produce some things with these characters on. They’re playing it safe for the moment with the designs I was using before, but if you missed them when I was running my shop then you’ll have another chance by the end of the year.

‘Hope you like it!

  1. The old hairstyle will come back occasionally, but now I’m working more often in an imitation of 3D it was needed that I find a style that could be more easily rotated without it obviously looking like a single-layer 2D drawing. Plus I wanted to be able to make the bunches bobble about when she moves!

I’ve got an idea for another hairstyle as well, but that’ll have to wait until I find an appropriate animation for it.

  2. I very much like the moral at the end. I’ve actually quoted it a few times already.

  3. There are no words (well, obviously that isn’t true…) to describe this one. You have out-done yourself mata šŸ˜€

  4. my favorite part is when she gets onstage, about to read her poem, and the scene rotates about her head. genius effects. the ambient effects are nice, especially the echo. nice one!

  5. Took me a while to get to this one because of work, but I must say – many, many good things about this one, most of them already mentioned. But I rather like Sarah’s new hair, I thought her poems were quite entertaining (heh), and I even enjoyed that little aphorism at the end.

Then again, maybe Sarah just appeals to the little goth girl somewhere inside of me. Whose soul is not like a mole. Except that it digs up lawns.

  6. Loved the new Little Goth Girl! A prefer her different hair- cute but still goth! šŸ™‚

Any chance of any Mr Snaffleburger merchandise?

  9. I just found out about this site today..
And I loved “Little Goth Girl”
I watch all of them, one after another one.
I’ll keep checking back to your site.
Oh and I liked the new style rather than the first one(s). šŸ™‚

  10. Germ-X, welcome to my site. The old episodes were made over three years ago, and so my progress in terms of skill as an animator is very easy to see. That said, I think the character herself is still very much unchanged.

LGGSaRaH, I don’t think that tennis is the LGG’s kind of thing, but if a plot turns up in my head that uses it then I will write it. BTW, your style of writing makes my head hurt, any chance of writing the full words in future please?

  11. Well, this was the first thing that came up when I searched ‘Mittens’ so I guess I can justify this going here…

This site just made me think of Mittens, a scary ordeal, but I seem to have survived.

This cartoon is also kind of amusing, especially if you like cats. And don’t like- well, it would spoil it to say.
